Dr. Philip Manfield: I am a psychotherapist with over thirty years clinical experience. Over the years I have worked with and helped hundreds of individuals and couples through a wide range of difficulties. My style is respectful, interactive and dynamic,  I've learned that there are a lot ways to help, to heal and to promote personal growth, and that no particular approach fits every person or situation. For example, for individuals with problems arising from recent traumatic events or from childhood trauma or neglect, whose parents may have been inconsistent or worse, I often combine EMDR with cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic strategies. I have two offices, one in   Berkeley, CA and the other in Walnut Creek, CA.

Dr. Manfield has authored or edited three books and numerous articles about psychotherapy and the use of EMDR. An international trainer, he has taught in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In January, 2001, he was honored to be featured in the book, "3 Minute Consultations with America's Greatest Psychotherapists." (Jason Aronson, Publishers) He is currently Northern California Regional Coordinator for the EMDR International Association.. Click here for information about the Northern California EMDRIA Regional Meeting 4/10/10 at Preservation Park in Oakland, CA

Dr. Manfield can be reached by telephone at 510-849-9411 or 925-944-0805, or by email: pem49.jpg (15594 bytes).

Directions to Dr. Manfield's offices:

Directions to Berkeley Office: (2936 Domingo Ave., Berkeley, 94705)  For local drivers coming from the Berkeley area for the  proceed south on Ashby Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Shattuck Ave., Telegraph Ave.or College Avenue towards Oakland, to Ashby Avenue. Make a left turn onto Ashby (heading away from the Bay) and continue up Ashby, passing Claremont Avenue, where there is a light.  The next corner will be Ashby and Domingo Avenues and will also have a light. The office (2936 Domingo) is in the two story corner building on the near left corner (North West corner), the combination on the door is 3,4,5 and the office is #4 (the closest one to the landing after you come up the stairs.). Drivers coming through the Caldecott Tunnel from Contra Costa County will need to take the Tunnel Road (State road 13) off ramp towards Berkeley immediately after coming through the Caldecott Tunnel.  Proceed down Tunnel Road to Domingo Avenue, which is the first light after the Claremont Hotel.   If you reach Claremont Avenue, you've gone one block too far.   Park and then follow the instructions above, as if coming from the Berkeley area, for locating the building.  Driver's coming from San Francisco, Oakland, and beyond will want to find their way to the Claremont Avenue exit of California Freeway 24 (which is also US I-980); turn left and proceed up Claremont Avenue about two miles to Ashby, where there is a traffic light, and turn right one block.  The building will be on the near left corner (see above). There is a pay lot for parking located behind the building and plenty of free two hour parking on surrounding streets. (Remember the combination to open the door: 3 4 5)

Directions to the Walnut Creek Office: (1844 San Miguel Dr., Suite 317, Walnut Creek, CA 94596) The Walnut Creek office is parallel to Broadway one block East of Broadway and can be accessed either by proceeding East on Mount Diablo Blvd. and turning right onto San Miguel one block after passing Nordstroms, or by proceeding East on Newell Avenue and then turning left onto San Miguel at the Stop sign. Suite 317 is located in one of five single story professional buildings arranged arround a courtyard beyond the parking lot in the back of the 1844 complex.  The office is in the middle building so if you walk into the courtyard you will walk right up to the front door of the office.
