EMDR Panel Presentation Discussing a video of an EMDR Session

Joan Lovett, M.D., Philip Manfield, Ph.D.,  Harriet Sage, MA, MFT

(Please note: We regret that for personal reasons, L Parnell will not be on this panel as originally planned.)

Presentation Description:

This workshop will be a discussion of five slightly different styles of EMDR. It will begin with a video of segments of an actual EMDR session by an anonymous clinician.   Each panel member will then discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the choices made by the clinician who conducted the videoed session, and some alternative choices that the panel member might have made. Questions will be taken from the audience and commented upon by the panelists.

The Panel:

Joan Lovett:

Joan Lovett, MD is a behavioral pediatrician in private practice in
Berkeley, California. She graduated from Wellesley College and University of
California San Francisco School of Medicine. She completed pediatric
internship and residency at Montreal Children's Hospital, after which she
was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at Stanford University.
Currently, Dr. Lovett is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and EMDR Institute
facilitator. She has given presentations on EMDR at Menninger's Clinic,
EMDRIA conferences, EMDR trainings in the US, England, France, the ID
Institute in Germany, and in Costa Rica. Dr. Lovett is the author of Small
Wonders: Healing Childhood Trauma with EMDR.

Philip Manfield:

Dr. Philip Manfield has trained EMDR clinicians domestically and internationally for the past twelve years, first as a training facilitator for the EMDR institue and most recently as a trainer. He has taught in a variety of university settings, and has edited two EMDR casebooks: Extending EMDR: A casebook of innovative applications, (W.W. Norton, 1998), and EMDR casebook (W.W. Norton, 2002). He has practiced psychotherapy in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past twenty-eight years, and is the EMDRIA Northern California Regional Coordinator.

Harriet Sage:

Harriet Sage is one of the pioneers of EMDR. She has lead our no-fee study group several times and the feedback from participants has been excellent. She facilitated at EMDR Institute trainings for a decade until leaving the Institute to provide facilitator support to independent trainers, including Laurel Parnell.  During her time at the Institute, she played a central role in developing a training program for EMDR facilitators, and personally trained facilitators in the US, Canada and Europe.  She is currently heading the EMDR HAP Project providing EMDR treatment to the staff of the SAGE Project, an organization of x-prostitutes helping working prostitutes to get off the streets and change their lives. (“Sage” also happens coincidentally to be Harriet’s last name.)
